The Court Case Empty The Court Case

Post by MatthewJames7 Wed Dec 23, 2020 12:46 am

Being escorted into the courtroom, Kate gulped with a sense of anxiety in her voice. She was being charged with first-degree murder which she knew that she was innocent. Kate was a beautiful woman in her mid-forties. She had long chestnut brown hair which flowed down her back and her eyes were green like the colour of emeralds. She was wearing a navy jacket with a red necktie around her neck which she wore in a Windsor knot. She had a belt securely fastened around her midriff to look the part.

The judge sat down in her chair, looking at Kate with a rather austere look on her face. The judge was a middle-aged woman whose hair was black but beginning to turn grey, and she wore a pair of steel-rimmed glasses that hung comfortably on her nose. To take a guess, Kate reckoned she looked about fifty-five to sixty.

"Are you Catherine Jennifer Evans?" she exclaimed rather sharply.

"Yes, your honour."

"I believe everyone refers to you as Kate, is that correct?"

"Yes, your honour, everyone called me Kate in school and it stuck from there."

"I don't care whether it stuck in school or not, I am here to put a sick individual like you on trial for your heinous actions and the fact that you took another person's life."

Kate could not believe what she was hearing, everybody knew that she was a very nice person and that she had a very bubbly personality. Surely there must be some mistake, she was at the scene of the crime, but it couldn't have been her, she was just doing some shopping when a guard spotted her near where the body of the victim had been found. She was being put on trial for a crime she did not commit, and one that, if found guilty, would mean that she'd spend life in jail.

"Let us begin, where were you on the night of January 18th?"

"I was out shopping with my daughter Julie, I was buying her a dress for her prom night."

"As charming as that little story is, you were seen standing by the alleyway where the body was located, and a knife was left at the scene of the crime. Eye-witnesses saw you standing there."

"I was standing there your honor, I was waiting for Julie to return from the coffee shop with a cup of coffee for me, and a cup of latte for her."

"Kate, you do realize that if you are found guilty, you shall be sentenced to life in jail."

The Court Case Empty Re: The Court Case

Post by MatthewJames7 Wed Dec 23, 2020 1:00 am

Kate nodded with a look of fear in her eyes. The worst thing about this trial was that she was a single parent. She began to think in her mind of who would become Julie's guardian even though Julie was nineteen years old if she was guilty. Julie was the person that Kate cared more about than anybody in the entire world and she had to raise her on her own after her husband proclaimed that he loved someone else just as he and Kate were to be married. Kate never forgave him for it and dropped all contact with him as a result. As Julie grew up, she wondered about her father to which Kate would reply, "sweetheart, your father ran off with another woman on our wedding day and after that, I never spoke to him again. That's why I do not have any photos of him around the house. After he did that, I proceeded to gather up every photo of him and burned them in the fire."

Julie was sitting in the front row of the seats behind Kate. She was as nervous as her mother and Kate could notice tears rolling down her eyes. It was sad to see that her grown-up daughter was crying and Kate couldn't hug her or comfort her to say that everything would be ok. It is often said that the love between a parent and their child is more powerful than any other force on the planet, and Kate's love for her daughter was her strongest asset.

Turning around, Kate looked at Julie. She could see the pain Julie was going through just watching her mother in the most important battle of her entire life. Kate mouthed, "I love you sweetheart" to her. The judge wasn't too happy with this action.

"Kate, I never gave you permission to turn around to your daughter. She should be ashamed to have a mother like you, a mother who would take another person's life without any mercy or remorse. If you dare to retort, I shall charge you with contempt of court which will not help you when it comes to the final verdict in this case"

The Court Case Empty Re: The Court Case

Kate was horrified by the judge's harsh words, nobody had ever criticized how she had raised Julie, especially considering Kate was a single parent. She had raised Julie to become a beautiful and intelligent young woman.

Julie, like her mother, was wearing a suit and tie. Her black pinstripe suit was absolutely stunning. She wore her tie in a four-in-hand knot which was pushed snugly up against the strict tight collar of her shirt.

After what seemed like an eternity the court case was just finishing up and things were not looking good for Kate.

"Kate, nearly everybody in this courtroom has testified that they saw a person matching your description at the scene of the crime. Now, the jury has reached a verdict. You are found guilty of first-degree murder and you shall serve life in jail."

Upon hearing this, Julie broke down into tears. Her mother, the person who loved her more than anyone was being sentenced to life in jail. She watched as Kate was escorted out of the courtroom and into a police car.

When the police arrived at the prison, Kate reluctantly got out. She followed them to a cell that was cold. On the bed lay a fresh set of clothes. It was odd, it wasn't those prison jumpsuits that you'd see on TV, but a regular suit and tie. At that moment the prison commissioner, Juliana Rhodes, arrived. She was roughly late-twenties which was odd for someone so young to be a prison commissioner, but Kate thought that she must have had a stellar work ethic if she was in such a high position

Catching the look on Kate's face, the commissioner exclaimed, "every prisoner in here wears a suit and tie so that they will be useful members of society and will behave like ladies when they are released. We have programmes to help so that when they are released, they will have the experience necessary to go into a job. You, however, shall not be attending any of these events or any activities that go on around here. There is one thing, however, every morning we do the rounds for suit inspection and every prisoner is required to be fully dressed at all times, that means ties properly fastened, top button closed, and ties pushed up tightly against your collar. The officers have full authority to correct any uniform issues. I shall be in attendance with them to make sure this is upheld properly."

The Court Case Empty Re: The Court Case

Sitting down, Juliana asked for the cell door to be locked for a minute so she could speak woman to woman with Kate as she told the supervising officer.

"Kate, I've only been commissioner of this prison for a year, but I have seen my fair share of sick individuals. The system here is that you shall have a general suit and tie for going around the prison in, and there will be a separate one for evening dinner which will be provided at 6 pm. Dinner shall commence at 6:30 and everyone is required to be even more appropriately dressed. We shall have you measured and then once that's done, we'll get you your dinner suit. I don't normally, but I have assigned myself to be your supervising officer. Now, put on your new suit, you're going to be getting used to it very quickly. I will be around to wake you every morning at 7 am and you are to get dressed immediately and follow me. Now, I shall see you tomorrow morning."

Evening came quite quickly. Kate put on the prison pyjamas and sat down at the end of the bed. She was terrified of her new surroundings, but what terrified her more so was who would take care of Julie. Eventually, she fell asleep.

The next morning, there was a knock on the door. "Kate, get up this instant. Put on your suit. I have made a few phone calls on your behalf. Your daughter has been escorted here to see you, though, with a mother like you, I'm surprised she'd want to. If my mother was like that, I'd cut all communication with her. I thought I said to put on your suit and tie. I do not have time to waste, now get dressed right now!!!"

Sorry not to see any handcuffs and shackles on the prisoner. I like your stories but maybe you can focus on more details, such as colour and pattern ot the ties, how tight they are, colour of the shirts high heels, movements in the outfit etc.

You're not late at all, don't worry. I certainly will, I'm trying to think up a good plot for it and my other one, Emma and the Suit.
